I marveled at the tropical plants

growing massive, with ease

compared them to the tropical plants I keep in pots in my house

in arid California

I couldn’t help myself

couldn’t resist

taking them from where they belong

to sit in water and sprout new roots somewhere else in the word

I told myself I needed to bring a piece of home

back home with me

after all, if they made it though customs

to the window-lit jars earmarked for them

it would mean that they

wanted to grow with me.

Right?
