The sun moves into Gemini on May 20, 2025

Welcome to Gemini season!

May 20 - June 20

The sun moves into the curious, witty, and social sign of mutable Air on May 20th at 11:55 am, and Gemini season ends on June 20th at 7:43 pm with the solstice, and the sun’s ingress into Cancer.

Overview:

Welcome to Gemini season, a time of interaction and exchange, conversation and gossip, as well as a little trickery and humor. During this Mercury-ruled season, Mercury will move from Taurus to Gemini to Cancer, and we will see three different flavors of Gemini season because of this. But while Mercury is in its home sign of Gemini alongside the sun, we get a surge of mercurial prominence, an increase in mental dexterity, and possibly some eye-opening insight, especially during the Mercury cazimi.

Saturn moves into Aries:

May 24, 2025 - September 1, 2025 & February 13, 2026 - April 12, 2028

Saturn has been in Pisces since March of 2023, but beginning May 24th of 2025, it begins to make the shift into Aries. Saturn will spend a piece of the summer in Aries, then it will retrograde back into Pisces to finish out that transit before moving back into Aries in early 2026, where it will stay until 2028.

In Aries, Saturn is in the sign of its fall, so the boundary work, the focus on longevity, and the structure can be harder for Saturn to execute in a sign dominated by impulsivity, action-orientation, and unsustained bursts of energy. Saturn is fighting a bit of an uphill battle when it comes to the maturity expected from the planet of discipline and limitations, while it moves through Mars’ cardinal fire sign. However, Saturn can help us to do the work we need to do, to place boundaries around our self-determination efforts, to get serious about how we express, assert, and create ourselves. Saturn can help us to be bolder, stronger, and more courageous when it matters, but we may need to get ahead of our impulses from time to time and adhere to the boundaries we know we need.

Jupiter moves into Cancer:

June 9, 2025 - June 29, 2026

Jupiter has spent the last year in the Gemini, a sign it is less than comfortable in, focused on the details in communication when it wants to be weaving grand stories. But come June 9th, Jupiter is moving into Cancer, the sign of its exaltation. Jupiter is very comfortable, well-regarded, and able to expand freely in Cancer. In Cancer, Jupiter’s desire to grow is nurtured—Jupiter has the ability to expand anything, blow up and explore it from every angle, as a means of understanding as much of it as possible. This year, Jupiter can help us see new ways to take care of ourselves, new ways to feel connected to others, and more connected to our emotions. Jupiter’s time in Cancer can help us to focus our attention on growing things that matter to us, things that increase our feeling of security, increase our knowledge base, and increase our access to what we want and need.

However, we may need to remind ourselves to look outside of ourselves, our needs, our loved ones, and what makes us feel most comfortable in order to see the big picture. Jupiter’s expansion can be myopic in a way: if there are endless worlds to explore within your own emotional experience of a moment, it’s easy to get lost in a tunnel of thought, slowly decreasing in scope. It’s moments like theses when it can be so important to lift our heads up and look out at others, see how big the world is outside of our own homes, how expansive emotional experiences can be when we take others’ into account, how much there is to understand outside of our own perspectives.

Mars Uranus square:

(the second to last one in fixed signs for a while)

June 15th at 2:46 am, Mars in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus (28°)

We’ve been experiencing squares between Mars and Uranus in fixed signs since May of 2018, and we’ve had about one in each calendar year since then (more actually because of the ones that get caught up in Mars’ retrogrades). With Uranus at the final degrees of Taurus, preparing to make the shift into Gemini, we’re closing out this cycle of fixed Mars/ Uranus hard aspects, but not before we have two more instances of this transit. First, with Mars at the final degree of Leo this June, and for the last time until the 2040s with Mars at the final degrees of Aquarius in February of 2026.

When Uranus and Mars come into hard aspects with each other, things can feel rocky, uncomfortable, maybe even threatening in some ways. These have been chaotic and unpredictable moments, and experiencing them in fixed signs has made the unexpected feel even more jarring, because disturbances have been showing up in rigid, even stubborn moments. Mars squares to Uranus can bring sudden and out-of-the-blue confrontations to the forefront, and can shake up realities in an instant. They aren’t necessarily bad because working through the conflict present can be quite generative, but the shock value is often present.

This may be an important moment to regulate your energy, your nervous system, and your anger. If things feel out of control, it can be important to remind yourself what your energy can do when constructively applied to your own self-care.

Jupiter-Saturn square:

(the final on in the series of 3 that began in 2024)

June 15th at 7:36 am, Jupiter in Cancer squares Saturn in Aries (1°)

Jupiter and Saturn typically form three squares clustered in a ten-month period (due to their retrograde cycles) every ten or so years—this Gemini season, we will experience the final of the three for this decade. The first two occurred in August and December of 2024 with Jupiter in Gemini and Saturn in Pisces, but this final one will bring a different flavor because Jupiter will be in Cancer and Saturn will be in Aries.

When Jupiter and Saturn come into hard aspects to one another, we are often left to grapple with how we support our growth with strong and sustainable foundations, while also pushing the boundaries of what is, in order to get to what can be. Last year, we may have found our desires to expand how we take in and communicate information at odds with the boundaries we need to feel emotionally regulated, both individually and collectively. This final square will bring some closure to the themes and topics stirred up by the last two, but with these planets having shifted into cardinal signs, this square may also open the door to to new questions.

How can we explore our emotional worlds without losing sight of the boundaries we need to have around our identities and egos?

How can we protect what matters most to us, and also boldly explore new things?

How can we nurture ourselves as we explore new versions of us, and allow the old versions to shrink or shed away?

How can we follow our impulses without losing sight of our responsibilities?

How can we nurture the growth we want to see in our lives without fearing the hard work it takes to get ourselves there?

Lunations:

New moon at 6° of Gemini on May 26th at 8:02 pm

This new moon offers us a deeply effective moment to manifest a new beginning for ourselves with our words, ideas, conversations, and how we choose to communicate ourselves. This new moon invites us to journal or speak our intentions into existence, to move like the versions of us that we want to become. This new moon has a lightness on the surface, but its effects travel like roots, extending below the surface. Let this moment build a new foundation within you, let this new beginning pull something with gravity out of you.

Full moon at 20° of Sagittarius on June 11th at 12:43 am

This full moon brings us a culmination in our big picture thinking and the stories that we tell about ourselves, our lives, and the world. We are being invited to celebrate something and bring it to a close, in order to begin a new cycle in a couple of weeks. In this invitation, there is healing. We don’t have to cling to every piece of every self we’ve ever been, this moment may motivate us to apply some healing balms and practice to a wound around self-expression, self-determination, and self-creation. This lunation is ruled by Jupiter, freshly in Cancer, allow this high point and the ending on the horizon that it signifies, to take deep and true care of you in some way.

Gemini season breakdown:

  • Gemini season begins just before noon on Tuesday, and the season of mutable air is ready to start shifting things around immediately. Thursday kicks off a long weekend of inspiration, surprises, and (possibly dramatic) tone shifts. We have a trine between Venus in Aries and Mars in Leo just after midnight, dialing up the excitement, energy, and motivation when it comes to our creative projects, our love lives, and other Venusian topics, helping to make the handwork more appealing. Then, around dawn, the sun sextiles Neptune, adding a dreamy and maybe magical feeling to Thursday, blurring boundaries and inspiring new perspectives. On Friday, Mercury sextiles the north node, encouraging grounded and fruitful conversations, thoughts, and ideas. Saturday is a busy day, with the sun trine to Pluto, a Mercury and Uranus conjunction, and Saturn’s long-awaited departure from Pisces and entrance into Aries (for the time being). Saturday may encourage us to dig deeper and investigate our curiosities, it might bring something previously unknown to light, and we may find ourselves face to face with some unexpected or even shocking news. When Saturn changes signs in the evening, we may not feel the shift of pressure, focus, and responsibility move into Aries immediately, but we may feel the relief in Pisces. We get to stretch out, relax our posture, and take a 3-month break in the Pisces parts of our charts, as we straighten up and prepare for the lessons taking shape in the Aries parts of our charts.

Then on Sunday, Mercury joins the sun and Jupiter in its diurnal home sign, Gemini, where it will almost immediately sextile to Saturn, freshly in Aries. Mercury in Gemini is quick, conversational, curious, and takes in information from everywhere available; but with a little support from Saturn, we might be able to find greater structure for our thoughts and make deeper commitments with our words.

  • This week draws focus to Mercury, now freshly in domicile, and on Monday, it will sextile Neptune in Aries, adding a confusing quality to communication and the exchange of ideas; it also might add an imaginative and spiritual quality to the mercurial as well. Then, in the evening, Mercury will rule over the Gemini new moon, bringing a fresh start to the Gemini part of our charts. This new moon may show us how to refresh ourselves through small pleasures, conversations, points of connection, and curiosities. Then on Tuesday, Mercury trines Pluto, helping us to take our explorations of what intrigues us to the next level, we may feel more investigative, more deeply curious, and we may find ourselves uncovering helpful information this week. On Thursday, Mercury will conjoin the sun, and we may find ourselves in a moment of clarity and insight. This cazimi brings Mercury to full strength, helping us to have the conversations, find the information, and make the connections that we need to in order to move forward. The week closes out with a Venus conjunction to Chiron in Aries, helping us to feel into the wounds we have around our self-expression and self-determination. The weekend might give us creative and connective moments of healing, either with ourselves or with people who help us to feel seen. Even when the wound hurts, the healing can be irresistibly sweet.

  • The early part of the week might come in with some sweetness as the energy builds to a sextile between Jupiter and Venus on Wednesday evening. Sextiles can be subtle, but they offer us something to capitalize on, and mid-week, there might be a new perspective on connection and creation to use to our advantage. Then on Thursday, Mercury forms its own sextile with Mars, emboldening our communications and motivating us to pursue our ideas, and with Mercury also in a square to the north and south nodes on Thursday, our communications may prove to be more important to our feelings of balance than usual. On Thursday evening, Venus moves from Aries, a sign where it struggles to embrace its true nature, into Taurus, its earthly domicile. Venus in Taurus is sensitive and sensual, creative, security-oriented, and interested in prioritizing pleasure and comfort. On Friday, Mercury forms a sextile to Chiron in Aries—as the weekend rolls around, we might find deeper levels of healing are available to us through our communications and conversations. The week ends with a burst of inspiration, bold new ideas, and perspective-shifting conversations, as Mercury conjoins Jupiter, and then makes its way into Cancer, where it will be for the next few weeks, helping us to find deeper levels of emotional salience in our communications.

  • Monday kicks off with a mixed bag of energy as Mercury squares off with Saturn in Aries, adding gravity to our conversations and imploring us to hold ourselves responsible for what we say. Then Venus squares off with Pluto, helping us to transmute conflict into an ability to uncover something hidden in the depths of our connections and relationships. Then Jupiter moves from Gemini in Cancer, where it will spend the next year exploring the moon’s watery territory, nurturing growth, expanding our abilities to care deeply, and helping us find new approaches to emotional fulfillment. Monday ends with Mercury squaring off with Neptune, adding an edge of confusion, delusion, and deception to our conversations and ideas. On Tuesday, Mars in Leo trines Chiron in Aries, encouraging us to put energy toward our healing, to find deeper acceptance for ourselves by engaging with our passions, and allowing ourselves to embrace our motivation and drive. Wednesday brings along the full moon in Sagittarius, and a sextile between Mercury in Cancer and Venus in Taurus, bringing a sweetness to our conversations. Mid-week, we might feel a pull to learn, explore, and adventure more, but with this lunation ruled by Jupiter, freshly in Cancer, feeling explorative and exploring feelings might be the most fruitful adventure we can go on. The weekend comes with some gravity as the sun squares off with the nodes, Mars squares off with Uranus, and Jupiter squares off with Saturn. It’s important to know our true boundaries this weekend, to place them and respect them, as surprises come our way, as our passions and motivations change, and as we do our best to grow past the artificial limitations masquerading as among them.

  • The final week of Gemini season begins with a sextile between the sun and Chiron in Aries on Tuesday morning, presenting us with small ways we can heal our relationships to ourselves, to our egos, and to help us find new and more embodied ways of expressing ourselves and tending to our wounds. Then in the afternoon, Mars moves into Virgo, where it is exacting, potentially a little critical, service-oriented in its passions and drive, and a meticulous editor. On Wednesday, Jupiter squares Neptune in Aries, encouraging us to expand our view of things, but it’s important not to let inspiration and imagination turn toward unchecked impulses that can undermine the care we need to show to ourselves, in order to nurture what truly matters. On Friday evening, the sun moves from Gemini to Cancer, presenting us with one of two brief moments of polarization in the form of a solstice, the summer solstice for the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice for the southern hemisphere.
