the sun moves into Aries on March 20th
… entering its sign of exaltation, renewing the astrological calendar, and ushering in the vernal equinox (here in the northern hemisphere). The sun will spend this Aries season co-present with Mercury, Chiron, Jupiter, and Vesta
Within its first day in this new sign, feeling bold and energized, the sun meets up with the moon. This new moon in Aries signals a time for taking the initiative and setting new goals.
Aries season has a few big shifts for us, the first of which is Pluto’s ingress into Aquarius on March 23rd, which marks the beginning of a new era—although this is just a taste of what the next 20 years have in store, as Pluto will only spend a few months here this year. In Aquarius, Pluto will bring a transformation to the collective, based on innovative ideas, technology, and power dynamics.
We will feel a second wave of change within the week when Mars ends its seven-month journey back and forth through Gemini and moves into Cancer on March 25th. In Cancer, Mars cannot move as directly and decisively as it wants to but in its fall, Mars can bring an emotional energy and a focus on family and feelings of safety and security. Then when Mars trines Saturn on the 30th, we get the ability to focus our attention and energy in disciplined ways that help us build for the future.
Also on the 30th, Venus and Uranus conjoin in Taurus, and when these two planets come together, surprises and unexpected turns can arise in our relationships, finances, and creative endeavors.
As we move into April, mercury enters Taurus and we may feel our communications and movements slow down, become more practical, and grounded. However, the square between Mercury and Pluto on April 3rd could bring some deep and investigative conversations or unearth some latent power struggles.
The Full Moon in Libra on April 5th may bring an ending to a balancing act, relationship dynamic, or justice-related project. That same day, Mercury will be sextile Saturn in Pisces which will provide a helpful grounding and stable energy to our conversations and the way we move through the world.
On April 10th Venus enters Gemini. In the sign of the twins, Venus is social, witty, changeable, and curious. We may feel a lighter energy in our approach to relationships, art, and our values more broadly. Then a few days later, Venus will square Saturn in Pisces bringing our attention to some boundaries we may need with people around us. We may feel stagnant energy when it comes to Venusian topics, and we may face roadblocks to commitment in these areas as well.
Jupiter’s cazimi will be on April 11th, illuminating the planet of abundance, expansion, and optimism. We may be even more inclined to feel Jupiter’s joy on this day because it has been (and will continue to be) combust for most of Aries season. Combustion happens when planets are close to the sun (within 15°) but not exactly conjunct it; leading to the sun's rays burning the planet out, draining it of energy, and blocking out its ability to fully express itself. But during the cazimi period (the exact conjunction) Jupite’sr energy gets lit up and empowered, so it's a great day to say yes.
Then Saturn’s sextile to the north node on the 13th may have us focused intensely on building out a foundation of some sort, putting in the work, and setting our view on the future.
Finally, on the 19th, in the last degree of Aries and the final hours of Aries season, we will have a solar eclipse near the north node, bringing in new energy, unexpected changes, and powerful new perspectives, particularly around individuality, selfhood, and personal development. This eclipse opens up a new story along the Aries-Libra axis–this is the first of 3 eclipses we will have in the Aries part of our charts, and it's introducing us to the themes of this new eclipse story that will play out over the next 2(ish) years.
Overall, Aries season invites us to take action, go after new opportunities and chase down what we want, while also focusing on ourselves in constructive ways, engaging in our relationships with care, and laying a foundation we can build our futures on.
Welcome to Aries season!
